Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Southwest is among three Minneapolis parks that could get news basketball courts funded by donations from Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald Jr. and WNBA legend Nancy Lieberman’s foundation.

The Nancy Lieberman Foundation builds “Dream Courts” in cities across the nation. Fitzgerald is interested in working with her to get new courts in his hometown, according to a Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board memo. The donations would cover resurfacing and new hoops and backboards.

Fitzgerald is a Minneapolis native and Holy Angels graduate. He’s considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.

Along with MLK Park, Powderhorn and Phelps parks are also mentioned as likely targets for new courts. The Park Board, however, wants to work with Lieberman and Fitzgerald to make sure they pick the best parks, according to the memo.

The Park Board tonight will discuss the idea and approve a resolution to accept the donations.
